Horses

The RSPCA and other horse welfare charities are under immense operational pressure in responding to the horse crisis. It is estimated there are around 7,000 horses in England and Wales that are at risk of needing rescue or new homes and yet horse rescue organisations are full to bursting.

There are a number of key issues that have led to these problems:

1. Over-population and low market value
2. Limited spaces at animal centres
3. Upsurge in welfare concerns
