What is the PawPrints award scheme?

Since 2008, the RSPCA¿s PawPrints scheme has been the only award scheme across England and Wales that recognises good practice from local authorities, housing providers and contingency planners in relation to animal welfare. The scheme celebrates good practice by rewarding those organisations which exceed basic and statutory service requirements, with the aim of achieving higher animal welfare standards.

Why enter the scheme?

PawPrints is the only award scheme across England and Wales to recognise and celebrate good practice which drives forward higher animal welfare standards.

By entering the scheme, your organisation can demonstrate a unique commitment to creating a world where all animals are respected and treated with kindness and compassion. The scheme provides organisations with a special opportunity to receive support and guidance from the RSPCA to develop their services, policies and procedures so they deliver higher standards for animal welfare.

If you win an award, the RSPCA will provide you with a logo. You can add the logo to your communications to further demonstrate your commitment to delivering higher animal welfare standards.

Who endorses the scheme?

The scheme has the support of the Local Government Association, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.

What award categories are there?

The PawPrints award scheme has five areas of work: stray dog services, housing, contingency planning, kennelled dogs and animal activity licensing. Each award has three levels: bronze, silver and gold - each level carrying progressively more demanding criteria.

You can view the criteria for each category in the uploaded documents section of this website below.

When and how can my organisation enter the PawPrints award scheme?

Your organisation will be able to enter the scheme from 24th June until 19th August 2022.

From 24 June, this website will be updated with a link to a form to complete your entry and upload evidence. If you need further information or advice to complete your entry, you can contact the RSPCA¿s Public Affairs team by email at politicalaffairs@rspca.org.uk.
